1. What DotGitIgnore Is

DotGitIgnore (dotgitignore.com) is a free, open developer tool designed to generate clean, conflict-free, and production-grade .gitignore configuration files by combining official and verified templates for programming languages, frameworks, operating systems, tools, and IDEs.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We believe in strict data minimization. DotGitIgnore does NOT collect:

• Names, usernames, passwords, or personal identity details.
• Email addresses or phone numbers (unless you choose to email us directly).
• Payment details, billing information, or financial data.
• Your repository contents, project file trees, or codebases.
• Cross-site tracking profiles or advertising identifiers.

3. Generator Inputs & Generated Content

When you search for technologies, select templates, inspect rules, or generate a .gitignore file:

• Client-Side Execution: All template parsing, rule merging, deduplication, and code output formatting happen entirely inside your web browser via client-side JavaScript.
• No Server Transmission: Your selected technologies and generated .gitignore files are never transmitted to our web servers, third-party APIs, or any database.
• Ephemeral URL Parameters: If you use a shared link containing pre-selected template IDs (e.g. /?select=node,python), this parameter is parsed locally by your browser to initialize UI state. It is not saved to a user profile.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We do not use tracking, marketing, or advertising cookies.

5. Analytics and Advertising

DotGitIgnore currently does NOT run any web analytics software (such as Google Analytics or Plausible) and does NOT display third-party advertisements or integrate ad networks. If privacy-respecting analytics or monetization are ever evaluated in the future, this document will be updated with explicit notices prior to deployment.

6. Server Logs and Hosting Infrastructure

Like almost all websites, the hosting infrastructure serving DotGitIgnore automatically receives standard HTTP request information generated by your browser (including your IP address, requested URL, user-agent string, and timestamp). These logs are collected solely for technical network operations, DDoS mitigation, and system security. They are not combined with any personal profiles.

7. Data Security

DotGitIgnore enforces encrypted HTTPS (TLS) connections across all pages to protect against tampering, eavesdropping, or man-in-the-middle attacks. Because the generator does not store user data or execute database queries, the attack surface for data breaches is minimized by architecture.

8. Third-Party Links

Our website provides links to external resources, notably GitHub repository references (such as github/gitignore) and developer documentation. We do not govern and are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or policies of third-party websites.

9. Children's Privacy

DotGitIgnore is an engineering utility intended for software developers and does not knowingly collect or maintain personal data from individuals under 13 years of age.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect updates to our architecture, legal obligations, or new features. When updates occur, the revision date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.
